Our client wanted to create the dream back garden for their children by including two passions – golf and netball – in one space. Due to the garden’s shape, our team at sister company, Artificial Lawn Company were able to design both sports into the same space while also making it visually appealing.
There were already a number of trees in the space, as well as lighting and a net system for the netball area, and because work was also being undertaken on the house, the garden was ready for our team to get to work.
While the garden was a blank canvas, there was some concern over how a range of sports would be incorporated into the space. A net was required for the netball area to reduce the time spent retrieving the ball, while the putting area needed a wide range of holes and contours to make for interesting and varied play. In addition, our client had a busy family, so minimal maintenance was essential.
Once designed, the team at our sister company, Artificial Lawn Company, took a two-pronged approach. For the netball area, they installed our 18mm Multi-purpose Sports Grass, which is super tough and durable, and has a suitable grip. For the putting area, they installed our 17mm Golf Prograss Green, which boasts an excellent stimp speed while also being low maintenance. We also installed our 45mm Supreme Lawn around the edges, which adds a realistic finish and has the added bonus of making the garden look just like a golf green.
This was a standard installation with some additions. The first was it required the use of extra Type 1 subbase across the whole garden area. It also needed small contours to add interest to the putting area, and four golf holes were set into a sharp sand and cement mix.
All of the grasses were together using artificial grass jointing tape and adhesive to create a seamless finish.
The client was left with an incredible back garden that their children and their friends are able to play in, no matter what the weather.
The netball area doubles up as a space for football, the golf green is a fun and entertaining place to practise, and the Supreme Lawn fringe adds an element of realism.
